Activating and Deactivating Departments
Departments can be made Active or Inactive without permanently deleting their information.
Deactivating a department
If a department is no longer required, locate it on the Departments page and select Deactivate.
The department will be marked as inactive rather than deleted.
This allows Cognivox to retain the department and its existing information in case it is needed again.
Inactive departments
Inactive departments are clearly identified with an Inactive status.
An inactive department should not be used when assigning new employees or handling new department-related activity.
Existing information associated with the department can remain intact.
Reactivating a department
If you need to use an inactive department again:
- Locate the inactive department.
- Select Reactivate.
- The department will return to Active status.
You can then use the department normally again.
When to deactivate a department
Consider deactivating a department when:
- The department has been closed.
- Departments have been reorganised.
- The department has been renamed or replaced.
- It should no longer be available for new employee assignments.
Deactivate rather than remove
Deactivation is preferable to permanently deleting a department because employees or other existing information may still reference it.
This helps preserve the history and integrity of your Cognivox configuration.
