Making Telephone Calls

The Telephone section of the Cognivox mobile app allows you to make outbound telephone calls using your Cognivox telephone service.

Opening the Telephone

Select Telephone from the navigation bar at the bottom of the Cognivox app.

The telephone screen provides a keypad together with options for entering or selecting the telephone number you want to call.

Entering a Telephone Number

Use the on-screen telephone keypad to enter the number.

The number you enter is displayed above the keypad.

If you make a mistake, delete the incorrect digits before starting the call.

Pasting a Telephone Number

If you have copied a telephone number from another app, message, email or webpage, you can paste it into Cognivox.

Select the Paste button beside the telephone number.

Cognivox will read the telephone number from the clipboard and prepare it for calling.

The paste feature is intended for telephone numbers and will reject clipboard content that cannot be interpreted as a telephone number.

Selecting a Number from Contacts

You can select a telephone number from the contacts stored on your device.

Select the Contacts button from the Telephone screen.

If requested, allow Cognivox access to your contacts.

Select the required contact and telephone number.

The selected number will be returned to the Telephone screen ready for calling.

Contacts Permission

Cognivox only requests access to your contacts when contact functionality is required.

You can manage the permission through the privacy settings on your device.

If Contacts permission is denied, you can still enter a telephone number using the Cognivox keypad or paste a suitable telephone number.

Starting a Call

Once the required telephone number is displayed, select the Call button.

Cognivox will connect to the Cognivox telephone service and prepare the outbound call.

An internet connection is required.

Microphone Access

Telephone calls require access to your device microphone.

The first time microphone access is required, your device may ask whether Cognivox can use the microphone.

Allow microphone access to make telephone calls.

If microphone permission has previously been denied, you may need to enable it from your device settings before making a call.

During a Call

Keep the Cognivox app available while using the telephone feature.

The Telephone screen will indicate the current call state as Cognivox establishes and manages the call.

Ending a Call

Use the call controls in Cognivox to end the telephone call when you have finished.

No Internet Connection

Cognivox telephone calls require network connectivity.

If your device is offline, Cognivox will not attempt to start the network call.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi or mobile data and try again.

Which Cognivox Account Is Used?

Telephone functionality uses the currently active Cognivox account.

If you have several accounts saved on your device, check the active account under System before making a call where necessary.

After the Call

Completed Cognivox telephone conversations may become available within Transcriptions.

If notifications are enabled, Cognivox may also notify you when a telephone conversation has completed.

You can select the notification to open the associated conversation.
